Double Wedding Ring

Here's a picture of the quilt that started it all for me. My first attempt at piecing and I chose the Double Wedding Ring pattern. Several years, and much frustration, later I learned this is not the easiest choice for a beginner. Who knew a few circles could wreak such havoc on an easy-going gal.

I started this quilt then packed it, and any hopes of ever making a quilt, away where they all stayed for well over 10 years. The box came with me through a few moves and major life changes. Dreams die hard sometimes. One day I unpacked the box and there she was, just waiting to challenge me all over again.

The colors are plain ugly, the fabrics dated, the points don't always meet and match, sections are crinkly, and one corner wears a rust-coloured nail polish dribble from an unfortunate spill. Still, all in all, it holds a special place in my heart.

  3. I love all quilts in general, but those that have a story behind them (and that posed a challenge!) are some of my absolute favorites. How wonderful that you finished it despite initially putting it away..! Lovely!

  4. You were very brave to begin with this one...and I am glad you finished it eventually. I assume you have made some in between.

  6. Well congrats at least you finished your DWR- I made half a dozen blocks, packed it up for years then finally got rid of it! I own an antique DWR because I will never make one myself.
